Description 

Snow and Ice Operations for Supervisors is designed for those in a supervisory role. This course will cover much of the same material in Snow and Ice Operations for Front Line Workers but will add more technical information that management staff will benefit from.

This course will help attendees with:

• Identifying Efficient Snow and Ice Removal Methods

• Choosing the Most Effective Pre-Treatment Anti-Icer

• Determining Pre-Treatment Timing

• Calculating Material Requirements

    Technical Training Specialist at UMass Transportation Center (UMTC)
    Michael Smith is the Baystate Roads Technical Training Specialist. He was a Highway Superintendent for 20 years where he developed and implemented modern road maintenance techniques. Mike was responsible for day to day operations and long range planning for the municipality. Before retiring in 2015, Mike was also a firefighter for 34 years. He is a lifelong resident of Heath, Massachusetts, whose teaching style includes a healthy portion of humor and student interaction. Mike can be reached at: mdsmith@umass.edu.
