Course Description

This comprehensive class will guide you through the essential steps of establishing and effectively managing a liquid anti-icing program. Led by experts in the field, participants will gain practical insights and real-world experience, equipping them with the knowledge needed to optimize winter road maintenance and safety strategies. Join us to learn best practices, key considerations, and innovative approaches to liquid anti-icing.

Target Audience

This workshop will benefit individuals, from equipment operators to selectmen, who are involved in the treatment and decision making processes for roadway deicing.

  • Kevin Collins
    Assistant Director at Town of Westminster
    Kevin Collins is the Assistant Director of Public Works for the Town of Westminster. Prior to that Kevin was the General Foreman for the Wellesley Highway Division.  Kevin began working with liquids in 2003 and learns more each season. He has brought both Westminster and Wellesley into liquid deicing by building both programs from their start to where they are today. The program in that was developed in Wellesley opened up some surrounding communities’ ideas on brine. Wellesley was selected by the American Public Works Association for the Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award in 2020. The Westminster Program went in two short seasons to produce great results in manufacturing and application of liquids in dealing with winter weather in north Worcester County.
  • Shane Mark
    Assistant Director of Public Works at Town of Needham
    Shane L. Mark, is the Assistant Director of Public Works with the Town of Needham Department of Public Works.  Shane has over 20 years of experience within the field of Transportation Operations.  He served in the United States Army Reserve for 20 years and retired as a Sergeant First Class/E-7.  During his time in the Army, Shane served in the Transportation Corps as the Assistant Operations Sergeant for his Battalion.  Shane earned a Master of Science in Management from Ohio Dominican University in August of 2011. Prior to his role in Needham. Shane was the Director of Streets in Newton, MA from April 2015 – November 2022 and was responsible for the City’s snow and ice control program. Shane also managed the snow and ice control program for the City of Columbus, Ohio from 2011 to 2015. He currently serves as a member on the Winter Maintenance Subcommittee for the American Public Works Association (APWA).

    Highway Supt. at Town of Lexington
    Marc is currently the Manger of Operations for the Lexington Dept. of Public Works in Massachusetts. During his tenure at Lexington, the Town has been able to transform their winter liquid operation to one that mirrors some of the best around the country.
