Towns can bring 2 spreader trucks per town and get them calibrated! Material will be provided on site so come empty.

Spreader Calibration: Save time, save money, save the environment by not over applying. This class will cover all the necessary steps for calibration of spreaders. Whether you spread sand or salt this class will teach how to achieve a goal of 250 lbs of salt per lane mile or 1,000 lbs of sand per lane mile (for gravel roads) or anything in between. Please bring your spreader truck with you and get it calibrated. This class will be both indoors and out so please plan and dress accordingly.

    Michael Smith is the Baystate Roads Technical Training Specialist. He was a Highway Superintendent for 20 years where he developed and implemented modern road maintenance techniques. Mike was responsible for day to day operations and long range planning for the municipality. Before retiring in 2015, Mike was also a firefighter for 34 years. He is a lifelong resident of Heath, Massachusetts, whose teaching style includes a healthy portion of humor and student interaction.
