Lance Fiondella

Research and Background

Fiondella earned his PhD in Computer Science & Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 2012 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Statistics at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. From Fall 2013 to Spring 2019, he was an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. During that time, he served as PI on multiple federally funded projects from the Army, Navy, DHS, NASA, and NSF, including a CAREER award, Software Reliability and Security Risk Assessment: Modeling and Algorithms. He served as a Research Affiliate of the Institute for Defense Analyses and holds a Joint Faculty Appointment with the Army Research Laboratory Vehicle Technology Directorate. He has delivered over 40 invited talks and published over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers, ten of which have been recognized with awards, including five with his students. His research products are presently used by major defense contractors, DoD Warfare Centers, University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs), and FFRDCs to assess the reliability and security of software for major defense acquisition programs. He presently advises five PhD students and involves seven undergraduates in research projects.
