MUTCD Refresher & Recent Updates
This workshop will provide a refresher to the 2009 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) as well as the Massachusetts Amendments to the MUTCD. The class will review pertinent MUTCD sign standards and guidelines, as well as introduce sign management methods municipalities can adopt to meet FHWA requirements for sign standards, including retroreflectivity which plays a critical role in providing adequate nighttime visibility of traffic signs to motorists. In addition, the workshop will provide information and guidance relative to the recently passed Municipal Modernization Bill regarding changes to Speed Limit Regulations under Chapter 90, Sections 17 and 18. This workshop will review MassDOT’s requirements for local adoption of these statutes with a goal of creating uniform implementation standards that will optimize effectiveness statewide.
