Webinar: Future Trends and Updates on Commercial Driver Licensing
On Wednesday, February 13th 2019, Kevin Lewis, Director of Driver Programs for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, conducted a presentation for our Innovative Initiatives – CDL Compliance & Safety webinar series. Entitled Future Trends and Updates on Commercial Driver Licensing, Lewis covered a number of fascinating topics, specifically:
- Efforts to modernize the CDL skills test to make the procedure more timely, comprehensive and flexible to dynamic changes in technology
- The Commercial Skills Test Information Management System (CSTIMS), a web-based system which manages the skills test portion of the CDL licensing program, including schedule tracking, recording of test results, and the auditing of administration.
- Jurisdictional guidelines for the safe testing and deployment of highly automated vehicles being developed, with a focus on issues related to drivers, vehicles and law enforcement.
- Mobile Driver’s Licenses (mDL), which would provide a digital representation of a driver’s license that is stored on a smart phone, allowing the owner of the license to customize what information is revealed and to whom.
