Webinar: Identifying the Most Important Factors Associated with Severe CMV Crashes

01/31/2019

On Wednesday, January 30th 2019, we hosted the first webinar in our series Innovative Initiatives – CDL Compliance & Safety. Dr. David Bierling from the Freight Mobility Division at Texas A&M Transportation Institute conducted a presentation on Identifying the Most Important Factors Associated with Severe CMV Crashes, a project funded through FMCSA, TTI and the TTI Center for Transportation Safety. Throughout the webinar, Dr. Bierling explained how he and his team looked at 2,780 at-fault CMV crashes from disparate sources, then combined them to perform a stronger statistical analysis in order to determine the top contributing factors. Following the presentation was a terrific discussion among the 76 attendees, wherein Dr. Bierling answered questions about the metric for measuring roadway risks on maps, the number of repeat offenders determined, tying the study to a statewide goal of moving toward zero deaths, and more.
